Again, I say there is no straight & narrow to nailing down your design style. Inspiration should come from many different places. If you're honest with yourself about why you're traveling certain places, choosing neutral sweaters or reading Period novels you'll realize where your heart lies. Decor items are just that...~items~ but space & home have always been so much more than that. It's where you kick your feet up at the end of the day. You deserve to look around & smile at all you've created. You are the one paying the mortgage/rent after all, create something YOU love & don't underestimate how much leaning into your true style can make you feel more alive than ever.

Sometimes I hear people say they don’t feel they were born in the "correct" decade. Too many people I know are getting back to old ways of life. Gardening, sourdough & time spent in nature instead of in front of the television. Long before technology was a thing, that's all there really was to do anyway, tend to your home & make a living! It's a truly simple way of life & yes, there's a "style" to match that if you choose. More homes are being filled with sustainable antique pieces, thrifted goods & neutral / soft palettes. It resembles the lifestyle. It speaks to what matters most to those yearning for a simpler life! Call it homestead if you will. If you need Pinterest inspo for this one...go ahead & type in "cottagecore interiors" & swoon, it's dreamy.

This one could require a little digging. There's no need to commit yourself to one specific era, I certainly haven't. You can possess an old soul quality about you & still appreciate the conveniences of modern day. I just think if you clearly identify with one, you'll know what that era is! Mid-century is a very easy one to spot, so is the Victorian Era! There's still plenty of glam & boldness to appreciate about the 80's.

This article is a fun read comparing the origins of some of the interior design styles we still see used today & putting years to them. It also pays homage to some of the original well-known interior designers from the past! I'm not an expert in the history of interior design or even modern day design at all for that matter but do know a lot of what we see & use today, as original as it sometimes feels is actually just a reflection of an earlier time.
