The Nursery didn't turn out like we planned & our final wallpaper choice

Very rarely do I begin thinking of renovation plans for a room in our home & completely steer away from my original choices. I don't always land on the exact color or finish the first time but I typically know what the vision is early on & at least hold hands with that through to the end. Our Nursery did not go through that same process. When I first created mood boards, one for a boy & one for a girl I was pretty certain I knew exactly what the room would look like when it was finished…but with the exception of the furniture choices, it didn't turn out like the originals I planned 6 months ago at all.

Here's the original vision for our little girl's nursery:

Wallpaper decision;

If you follow along at all on our Instagram, the week I had planned to order her wallpaper I started completely doubting my decision about the trellis bows for several reasons.

  1. The sample color was much "whiter" than it showed online ( !!!!!!!!! ) never skip out on ordering the samples. I loved the color but was worried it'd feel too stark.

  2. It started to feel too trendy - Bows will ALWAYS be "in" for little girls but right now bows are SO in for everyyyyone that I was worried we'd come out on the other side of this in a year like...oops...we put a hot trend on our walls.

  3. I couldn't get a few other wallpapers out of my head, but I also hadn't given them the time they deserved by curating mood boards around them.

  4. My original reasons for not choosing a bolder wallpaper from the get-go weren't good enough. I wanted something unique for her space but if I'm honest, I was playing it safe,

  5. The rug I wanted for the original wallpaper was backordered past our due date. Ok, this one isn't that deep because she literally doesn't need a rug in her room ASAP but I do think a rug can make or break a room & I was set on a certain one for the bow wallpaper so that's what initially projected this whole thing. It felt like a sign ;)

Other wallpapers I considered:

Top Left; Coverlet by Magnolia Home Bottom Left; The Grove Wall Blush Bottom right; Mariposa Wall Blush

The one we chose: Alexandra by artist Katie Small x WallBlush (Top Right) - if that artist name sounds familiar, she’s the same one responsible for the mural wallpaper in our dining room!

Why we chose this:

  1. When Austin sat on this one for a day & knew I couldn't get it out of my head he said "It's everything we would want our daughter to be, vibrant, playful & unique" Yeah, alright who does this man think he is making a pregnant woman cry *place order*

  2. Best price point - We keep it real around here, choosing a paper from this company saved us around $300 & thank goodness for that because we were able to use the leftover funds to hire this job out

  3. It stretched me creatively. This one wasn't so easy to piece together. There's alotttttt going on with this wallpaper so everything I chose for the room after that had to be heavily considered & feel very intentional (it's also a puny room so that was already the case) - thankfully, the crib we already owned & the glider & dresser we loved for the space actually worked better in here anyway!

There's almost zero cohesiveness with the rest of our home when it comes to this room outside of a few decor choices & that's probably how it should be. She doesn't ever need to feel like her room is an extension of the rest of our house, that'll be her own space to create in & retreat to so it was treated as such! There is still of course a little Altimus Home flare in there & always will be, as long as she wants that.

Plenty more nursery details to come! Thanks for being here.
