My formula for styling a coffee table

Coffee tables feel like something people did away with for a while but they're a timeless & functional space in your home & can even be a conversation piece if executed the right way. This is easily my favorite spot in our home to decorate because I can change it almost weekly without it really effecting anybody. No holes in the wall etc. Aside from it being the obvious place to set your drink down (seriously, we love functionality) It's also a really great area to show your personality & maybe even go bold with a few artsy or sentimental pieces! I'm not doing anything earth shattering here or trying to change the game but I do have a little formula I keep in mind when choosing the outfit for our coffee table!
Something that feels organic -
To me, this is something like greenery or flowers. Something that feels very natural, less geometric & maybe even a little messy. Since a coffee table is a hard surface, this can soften things up a bit with a softer texture. Keep it simple or go almost "too big" & bold. I've done both.. both are fun.

Something personal -
Making sure our home feels lived in & not so perfectly "staged" all the time is important to me because we DO live here & it needs to feel inviting to not only us but our guests too. My favorite way to do this is to lay flat family photos on the table. Printed photos in a decorative bowl or my personal favorite - polaroids in a glass keepsake box. It's really fun to add to them & flip through them with loved ones! Since they're out of frame too, it doesn't feel so formal either & creates a relaxed conversation piece. If you don't have a polaroid, we have the Fuji Instax Mini 11.

Something interactive -
This one is probably the safest place to start - coffee table books! They've coined the name for a reason & really just about any book can be a coffee table book. Sometimes I'll even just toss a magazine or two on the table but this is something you or your guests can flip through if left alone instead of scrolling through your phones! Sometimes I'll just set a book down closed with a few trinket items around & on top of it - sometimes I'll intentionally choose a page from a design book & display it open. This elevates the space (& shows personality again because you can choose a page you LOVE) - I've been loving this affordable acrylic book display!
The possibilities are endless when styling a coffee table which is what makes it so exciting for me! Have fun with it, don't overcrowd it or undersell it.
